Ascot Racecourse is one of two premier racing venues in Perth, the other being Belmont Park, and is to the biggest and most lucrative thoroughbred races in Western Australia.
Located just eight kilometres outside of Perth’s metropolitan centre, the Ascot racecourse and all of the great races that take place throughout the year are governed by the Western Australian Turf Club (WATC) also known as Perth Racing, who have their head office directly opposite the course.

Major Ascot Races
There are two major periods of racing in Perth, with the Summer Racing Carnival running from late October until mid December featuring great Ascot races including the $1 million Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) and the $500,000 Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m).
Other big events in the summer include the $500,000 Group 2 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) and the traditional New Years’ Day feature, the $400,000 Group 2 Perth Cup (2400m).
Ascot racecourse is also used for Perth’s Autumn Racing Carnival, which is highlighted by the running of the coveted $500,000 Group 1 WATC Derby (2400m).
Autumn Ascot races that are also a huge attraction include the $500,000 Group 2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) and the $250,000 Group 3 WA Oaks (2400m).
Ascot Race Track Details
The race track at Ascot is a modern track with excellent drainage. It has a 2,200 metre circumference and a 300 metre straight and is considered one of Australia’s most demanding courses for staying events.
