2010 Ascot Summer Races – Festival of Perth Racing

November 17th, 2010

The 2010 Festival of Perth Racing, the feature series of races conducted in WA and the biggest event on the summer racing carnival in Australia, is set to kick off this Saturday November 20 with the Railway Stakes Day.

Conducted over three Saturday race meetings during November and December, the Festival of Perth Racing takes place at the picturesque Ascot Racecourse and is home to the two big Group 1 showdowns of the summer.

The first race day of the Festival of Perth Racing for 2010 is the Railway Stakes Day taking place on Saturday November 20th, headlined by the $1 million Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m).

The Carlton Draught Railway Stakes is the richest race held in Perth and the final field this year features the likes of current favourite Colour Correct, reigning champion Sniper’s Bullet, R.J. Peters Stakes winner God Has Spoken and Lee Steere Stakes’ winner Famous Roman.

The festivities continue with Day 2 on Saturday November 27th when the Winterbottom Stakes Day takes centre stage.

The headline event at the second Festival of Perth Racing meeting is the $750,000 Group 2 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m), the richest sprint race in WA.

Early 2010 Winterbottom Stakes betting markets at Luxbet have reigning champion Ortensia and Prince of Wales Stakes winner Waratah’s Secret at the top of the odds.

Finally on Saturday December 4 the carnival culminates with Kingston Town Classic Day, the marquee race at the meet being the $500,000 Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m).

A field of top class gallopers are heading towards the 2010 Kingston Town Classic with the ante-post markets at Luxbet currently lead by God Has Spoken and Sniper’s Bullet.

The Festival of Perth Racing is part of the larger Ascot Summer Racing Carnival that kicked off on October 30 with the running of the Group 3 Asian Beau Stakes (1400m) and continues through until New Year’s Day, January 1, 2011.

Other highlights during the wider Perth Summer Carnival that will provide great punting opportunities right throughout the holiday period include the $225,000 Group 2 CB Cox Stakes (2100m) on December 18 and the highly anticipated $400,000 Group 2 Perth Cup (2400m) on New Year’s Day.
