The latest Group race of the Ascot Summer Racing Carnival is due to run this Saturday, December 11, as the 2010 A.J. Scahill Stakes takes place at the esteemed Ascot Racecourse.
A quality middle-distance sprint for horses aged three and over, the $125,000 Group 3 A.J. Scahill Stakes (1400m) final field is made up of 10 runners lead by early favourite Waratah’s Secret.
Currently at a quote of around $3 – $3.50 at the online bookmakers, the David Harrison-trained Oratorio four-year-old Waratah’s Secret has been in great form of late producing a number of eye-catching runs including their Group 3 Prince of Wales Stakes (1200m) victory in late October and their last start fourth in the Group 2 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m).
There are four other runners at single-figure odds in the A.J. Scahill Stakes betting markets.
King Kool Kat sits as the second elect, the in-form seven-year-old drawn ideally on the rails and coming off a second to Hadabeclorka in the Winterbottom Stakes.
Hadabeclorka is another early favourite in the A.J. Scahill Stakes odds, the upset winner of the Winterbottom Stakes at a much shorter quote than the $41 price he started at for his upset victory here on November 27.
Megatic also has real claims, the six-year-old Danetime gelding having run a strong third to Gathering in the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) last time out and drawn well for Saturday in barrier four due to be ridden by Patrick Carbery.
Marasco is the last runner at the top of the markets, Fred Kersley’s veteran eight-year-old looking to return to their autumn form third up for the season.
One longer priced roughie in the A.J. Scahill Stakes that could rise to finish in the money adding value to the exotic wagers is Elliotto, the Neville Parnham-trained Easy Rocking gelding having placed in a stakes feature before their unlucky Winterbottom Stakes run.
The 2010 A.J. Scahill Stakes is due to run as Ascot Race 6 on Saturday, jumping at 7:20pm (AEDST).
